The use of mudras, in the practice of yoga, is a powerful tool for self-care and empowerment. With yoga, the intention is to draw oneself inward. Mudras allow us to go inward and recharge our energy levels. The term mudra applies to the use of hand gestures during meditation that carries specific goals of channeling your body’s energy flow.

There are more than 100 known mudras that have been developed over the centuries. Each finger represents a different element. The thumb symbolizes space; the index is air; the middle finger is fire; the ring finger is water, and the pinky stands for the earth. So it is believed that by creating different mudras with your hands via different configurations of your fingers, you are tapping into that powerful energy.
